Luxury Safari Tent Suite
Spacious glass-and-canvas suite with tented roof mimicking dune formations. Large comfortable bed, spacious en-suite bathroom with hot water, private veranda overlooking Hoanib Valley and distant Namib dunes. Untreated timber and muted fabric furnishings blend with desert landscape.
Family Safari Tent Suite
Larger accommodation designed for families, sleeping up to four guests. Maintains the same architectural style and comfort standards as standard suites with enhanced sleeping arrangements. Multiple beds or interconnecting spaces allow family groups to share while maintaining privacy.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is accessible only by light aircraft charter. Most guests fly from Windhoek International Airport (approximately 2-hour charter flight) or transfer from nearby Doro Nawas airstrip in Damaraland (approximately 1-hour scenic flight). All transfers are arranged through Wilderness Safaris and included in the package rate. Self-drive access is not available due to the remote location within the Palmwag Concession.
The best time to visit is June to October (dry season), when temperatures range from 15-25°C and wildlife congregates around water sources, providing optimal game viewing. November to March brings occasional rainfall and lush vegetation but less predictable wildlife sightings. April to May offers moderate temperatures and good activity as the dry season begins. The Hoanib River flows seasonally for about two months; most of the year it is dry.
The 60,000-acre concession supports desert-adapted populations including desert elephants (rare and endangered), black rhinos, gemsbok (oryx), kudu, springbok, zebra, porcupine, aardvark, and various owl and raptor species. Night drives reveal nocturnal predators and small mammals. The camp specializes in observing desert elephant behavior and tracking black rhinos with expert guides trained in arid ecosystem ecology.
Yes, Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp welcomes families with children aged 6 and older. The camp features a family suite accommodating up to four guests and offers child-friendly activities guided by experienced staff. Game drives and nature walks are available for children 6+, and the remote location provides a safe, screen-free environment. Advance notice allows the camp to tailor experiences for younger travelers.
All-inclusive packages include twice-daily game drives (morning and late afternoon, 3-4 hours each), guided nature walks exploring desert ecology and wildlife tracks, day excursions to Skeleton Coast National Park (subject to permit availability), night game drives, and interaction with on-site wildlife researchers. Bush dining experiences can be arranged as special requests.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp rates range from approximately $550-$1,860 per person per night (all-inclusive), with pricing varying by season. Off-peak rates (January-March) start from approximately £765 per person per night. All-inclusive packages cover accommodation, all meals, drinks, and safari activities. Flights to and from the lodge are arranged separately through charter operators.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp does not offer WiFi or internet connectivity. This is intentional—the remote desert location is designed as a digital detox experience, allowing guests to disconnect and immerse themselves fully in the wilderness. Mobile phone coverage is also limited or unavailable.
Specific cancellation terms are available through Wilderness Safaris at the time of booking. Standard industry practice allows free cancellation 60+ days before arrival, with graduated charges (typically 50%) for cancellations 30-59 days prior. Last-minute cancellations (under 30 days) may incur full payment charges. Travel insurance is recommended for all bookings.
The camp operates under the concession model, which creates economic incentive for habitat preservation over alternative land use. Wilderness Safaris, the operator, is a conservation-focused company active across Africa for over three decades. The camp employs local Damara and Herero community members, supporting regional economic development. Wildlife research partnerships allow guests to participate in ongoing studies of desert elephant ecology and black rhino conservation. Sustainability measures include solar power generation and water conservation systems.
