Kanana is accessed by a 15–20 minute light aircraft flight from Maun, followed by a 5–10 minute road transfer from the airstrip to the camp. Due to aircraft weight restrictions on charter flights, passengers are limited to one soft-sided bag weighing no more than 20kg, including hand baggage. Flights can also depart from Kasane if you're arriving from another region.
The best time depends on your priorities. June–October offers peak dry season game viewing and exceptional Big Five sightings, though rates are highest (US$1,770/pppn). July–December provides the best water-based activities when seasonal flooding creates Delta channels ideal for mokoro safaris. January–February offers the lowest rates (US$715/pppn) with lush green vegetation and excellent bird watching. The heronry is active year-round, with thousands of breeding birds present.
Kanana is home to diverse Okavango Delta wildlife including hippos, buffalo, elephants, and various antelope species. The camp's location on the Xudum River provides exceptional hippo viewing from private decks. The property hosts the Delta's largest heronry with thousands of aquatic birds breeding annually. Guided game drives and bush walks offer opportunities to spot wildlife adapted to both aquatic and terrestrial habitats, though specific Big Five encounters depend on seasonal patterns and water availability.
Yes, children ages 6 and older are welcome at Kanana Camp. However, age restrictions apply to certain activities—younger children may not participate in all game drives or bush walks depending on their age and ability to sit quietly. A family suite is available for guests traveling with children. Parents should contact the camp directly to discuss which activities are suitable for their child's age.
All-inclusive rates include accommodation, twice-daily guided game activities (game drives, bush walks, and water-based activities when water levels permit), all meals, selected alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, daily laundry service, park entrance fees, and emergency evacuation insurance to a regional medical facility. Water-based activities depend on seasonal water levels. Activities are conducted by professional guides trained in wildlife interpretation and safety.
Yes, Kanana Camp offers Wi-Fi connectivity at the main lodge. However, as a remote safari property in the Okavango Delta, connection speeds may be variable. Many guests choose limited device use during their stay to fully immerse in the safari experience. The camp's reading nook and outdoor spaces provide Wi-Fi-free relaxation areas.
Specific cancellation terms vary by booking date and operator. Standard policies typically allow free cancellation 60+ days before arrival, with 50% charges for cancellations 30–59 days prior, and full charges within 30 days. Payment methods and deposit requirements should be confirmed directly with the booking operator. Emergency evacuation insurance is included in all rates.
Excluded from nightly rates are: international and domestic flights to/from Maun, personal items and toiletries, premium alcoholic drinks beyond the selected beverages, gratuities for guides and staff, and any activities not listed in the camp's standard offering (such as helicopter safaris or spa treatments). Airport transfers from Maun are included, but flights to Maun are the guest's responsibility.
Absolutely. Kanana is exceptionally well-positioned for both. The camp hosts the Okavango Delta's largest heronry with thousands of aquatic birds breeding annually, making it one of Africa's premier bird watching destinations. Water activities including mokoro (traditional canoe) excursions and powerboat cruises through Delta channels are available during flooding seasons (July–December). The Xudum River location and seasonal floodplains create ideal conditions for observing water-dependent wildlife and nesting birds.
