From O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, take a scheduled daily Airlink flight to Beira International Airport (approximately 2 hours). From Beira, Muzimu Lodge arranges either a charter flight (approximately 1 hour) or ground transfer (4–5 hours by road) to the lodge. The lodge can coordinate all transfers when you book.
The best time to visit is July through September, when Gorongosa National Park experiences cool, dry weather ideal for game viewing and wildlife concentrations are highest. April through June and October through November offer excellent wildlife viewing with fewer crowds and lower rates. The wet season (December–March) brings lush vegetation and bird activity but reduced wildlife visibility.
Gorongosa National Park supports elephant, lion, wild dog, buffalo, hippopotamus, and numerous antelope species. The E.O. Wilson Lab has documented vast biodiversity including endemic species found nowhere else. Birdwatching is exceptional year-round. Hippos are frequently sighted along the Mussicadzi River where the lodge is located.
Yes, Muzimu Lodge welcomes children aged 12 and above. Children aged 12–16 must share accommodation with an adult family member, while children aged 16 and above may have their own room (shared or single). The lodge offers family-friendly game drives, guided walks, and cultural activities suitable for older children interested in wildlife and conservation.
Included in all rates are accommodation, all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), local beverages, twice-daily game drives, guided bush walks, laundry service, limited WiFi, and inter-camp transfers within Gorongosa. Additional activities such as night drives, E.O. Wilson Lab visits, Gorongosa Coffee Project tours, and in-room massage treatments may be arranged for an additional cost.
Muzimu Lodge offers limited WiFi access at the main lodge building. Mobile network coverage is available but may be intermittent. The lodge provides 24-hour security and has a satellite phone for emergencies. Internet connectivity is not guaranteed throughout the property, so plan accordingly if you need reliable communication.
Included in rates are accommodation, all meals, local beverages, daily safari activities, laundry, and limited WiFi. Not included are park entry fees (US$20 per adult per day), conservation & community levy (US$100 per adult per day), gratuities, privately guided activities, night drives, Mount Gorongosa day tours, imported drinks, in-room massage treatments, and personal medical insurance. Minimum two-night stays apply.

Muzimu Lodge operates within the Gorongosa Restoration Project, a long-term initiative to restore ecosystems and wildlife populations. Your conservation & community levy (US$100 per adult per day) directly funds anti-poaching efforts, habitat restoration, and community development. The lodge provides access to the E.O. Wilson Lab, where researchers document biodiversity and support conservation of at-risk species, and to the Gorongosa Coffee Project demonstrating sustainable agroforestry.
Muzimu Lodge rates range from US$950 to US$1,250 per person per night for shared accommodation (minimum two-night stay). Single occupancy is US$1,425 per night. Rates vary by season: April–June and October–November are US$950–$1,000 per person per night, while July–September (peak season) is US$1,250 per person per night. Exclusive lodge use for groups up to 12 guests is US$11,400 per night. All meals, activities, and most amenities are included in the nightly rate.
