Nogatsaa Pans Lodge is not accessible by road. Guests fly to Maun International Airport on scheduled international flights, then charter a light aircraft (Cessna 206, 45-60 minutes) to a private airstrip serving the lodge, followed by a 30-45 minute game drive transfer to the property. Alternative charter flights from Kasane (northeast, 60-75 minutes) are available. The lodge closes January-March when roads become impassable due to rainy season conditions.
The best time to visit is July-October (Southern Hemisphere winter) when dry conditions concentrate wildlife at pans and waterholes, providing optimal game viewing with cool mornings (8-15°C) and warm afternoons (22-28°C). Shoulder seasons (April-June and November-December) offer moderate wildlife viewing with fewer guests and lower rates. The lodge closes entirely January-March during the rainy season.
Rates for 2026 are USD 530-804 per person per night sharing, with seasonal variation: April-June at USD 804, July-October (peak) at USD 590, November at USD 530, and December at USD 530. Single supplement may apply. These rates are for luxury tented rooms and do not include park fees, conservation levies, or other applicable charges. 2027 rates will be published as they become available.
Nogatsaa Pans Lodge accepts children ages 6+. However, bush walks and night drives have a minimum age requirement of 12 years; younger children require private bookings for these activities. The lodge offers 2 family rooms with flexible sleeping configurations. The stationary observation from the main lodge and room verandas allows children to observe wildlife safely without vehicle movement.
The Nogatsaa region supports African elephant, Cape buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala, kudu, and warthog. Predators including lion, leopard, and hyena are present but encountered less frequently. The region is a significant bird-watching destination with over 400 bird species recorded in Chobe National Park, including raptors, waterbirds, and woodland species. Wildlife viewing is most concentrated during the dry season (July-October) when animals congregate at the Kwikamba Pan and waterholes.
Activities include twice-daily game drives (morning departures 06:30, afternoon 15:30, 3-4 hours duration) along teak forest roads and the Ngwezumba River bed; guided bush walks (morning only, 2-3 hours, minimum age 12); night drives (subject to park regulations); stationary wildlife observation from the main lodge deck and private room verandas with 24-hour visibility to pan activity; bird watching; and photography sessions at dedicated hides positioned at pan locations.
Nogatsaa Pans Lodge does not offer Wi-Fi connectivity. The remote location in Chobe National Park's interior provides limited to no mobile network coverage. This is intentional as part of the lodge's approach to delivering an authentic, disconnected bush experience. Guests should plan accordingly if they require internet access during their stay.
The lodge is located in a malaria-endemic region; guests should consult their physician regarding antimalarial prophylaxis prior to travel. Mosquito nets are provided in all rooms, and the lodge maintains insect management practices. The raised-platform room construction provides additional protection from ground-level wildlife. Medical facilities are limited; serious medical emergencies require evacuation by charter aircraft to larger medical centers in Kasane or Maun. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is strongly recommended.
Nogatsaa Pans Lodge is unique as the only accommodation within the remote Nogatsaa region, 80 kilometers south of the heavily-visited Chobe River area. This positioning provides greater solitude and exclusivity compared to riverfront lodges like Chobe Game Lodge or Chobe Safari Lodge. The lodge specializes in stationary pan-based observation rather than high-volume game drive activity. It is positioned as a luxury offering (USD 530-804 per night) compared to budget options, but with a focus on wilderness immersion rather than resort-style amenities. The 2017 World Travel Awards nomination reflects its design and operational excellence.
