Yes, Spurwing Island Lodge is family-friendly. Children under 3 stay free, and children ages 3-12 receive 50% of the adult rate. Family chalets feature extendable chair-beds to accommodate children, and there is space for camp cots in cabins. The lodge offers full board with multiple meal options, and the island's natural separation from the mainland means large predators like lions and leopards cannot easily access it, creating a safer environment for families.
Wildlife on the island includes elephant, jackal, hippo, crocodile, serval, and genet. Large predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas cannot easily access the island due to its separation from the mainland by a narrow channel, but you have an excellent chance of seeing them on nearby mainland game drives because they are still extremely close. Over 350 bird species have been identified in the Matusadona region. Lake Kariba is also home to tiger fish and other game fish species.
Activities include game drives by safari vehicle, boat and pontoon game viewing, guided bush walks with professional guides, scenic trips up Sanyati Gorge, fishing expeditions for tiger fish and other species, and bird watching. Activities can be enjoyed on both land and water, providing diverse ways to experience the Lake Kariba and Matusadona ecosystem.
Full board rates include early morning tea, full breakfast, two-course lunch, afternoon tea and cake, and four-course dinner. Beverages, activities, and the 2% government levy are not included in the nightly rate. The thatched dining room features open-air ventilation and panoramic lake views.
Spurwing Island Lodge and Lake Kariba offer year-round wildlife viewing opportunities. Water-based activities and fishing remain productive throughout the year, though seasonal variations occur in wildlife concentration and water levels. The island's location creates favorable conditions for both land and water-based safaris regardless of season.
Wi-Fi is not available at Spurwing Island Lodge. However, the lodge provides a relaxed island retreat experience with all rooms equipped with 220V electricity, fans, and mosquito nets. For travelers seeking digital connectivity, other accommodations in the Lake Kariba region may offer Wi-Fi access.
