The Hide is located approximately 2 hours south of Victoria Falls by road transfer. The camp is situated on Hwange National Park's eastern boundary, roughly 280 kilometres from Victoria Falls International Airport (approximately 3.5-4 hour drive). The camp arranges ground transfers with advance booking, or you can arrange charter flights through professional operators to nearby airstrips serving Hwange National Park.
The dry season from May to October offers optimal game viewing, with elephants concentrating around permanent water sources and temperatures ranging 15-30°C. This period commands premium rates ($595-$835 per person nightly). The green season (November-April) features lush vegetation, migratory birds, and newborn wildlife at lower rates ($445-$467), though malaria risk increases. Shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October) offer moderate pricing with good wildlife viewing and comfortable temperatures.
The Hide operates on fully inclusive pricing: May-June 2026 from $565 per person sharing; June-October 2026 from $795 per person sharing; November 2026-March 2027 from $445 per person sharing. Rates include accommodation, all meals, selected beverages, and game drives. Park fees ($15-20 USD per person daily) are payable separately in cash at camp. Pricing varies seasonally and is subject to availability.
The Hide's general policy requires children aged 10 and older for regular game drives. However, other arrangements can be made by prior management approval depending on other guests in camp or through block-booking the entire camp. Tom's Little Hide offers family-friendly accommodation with multiple bedrooms. For children under 10, contact the camp directly to discuss options and availability.
Hwange National Park holds Africa's second-largest elephant population, making elephant sightings highly likely year-round. Other wildlife includes lions, leopards, African wild dogs, cheetahs, sable antelope, roan antelope, bat-eared foxes, brown hyena, and over 450 bird species. The park contains 108 mammal species total. Wildlife viewing is reliable throughout the year due to the permanent waterhole at camp and year-round game concentration in the dry season.
All activities are included in the fully inclusive package: twice-daily game drives (morning and evening), guided bush walks led by expert naturalists, night drives with spotlight, and underground hide sits at wildlife pans for close wildlife observation. Bush breakfasts and overnight stays in the Dove's Nest treehouse are available as specialty experiences. Expert guides provide wildlife education and conservation insights during all activities.
The Hide does not offer Wi-Fi connectivity, maintaining the immersive safari experience by encouraging disconnection from digital distractions. Cell phone coverage may be limited depending on your provider's network reach in remote Hwange National Park. This disconnection is intentional to enhance wildlife focus and guest relaxation. Consider this when planning communication needs during your stay.
Hwange National Park is located in a malaria-endemic region. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended, particularly for visits during the green season (November-April) when mosquito activity peaks. The camp provides mosquito nets in all accommodations and maintains generator backup for air-conditioning. Consult your physician before travel regarding appropriate antimalarial medication for your health profile and travel dates.
The Hide has been voted "Best Tented Safari Camp in Zimbabwe" on 10 occasions since 1995 and is one of few camps actually positioned inside Hwange National Park (not just adjacent). Its unique features include two underground hides at wildlife pans for exceptional close encounters, direct waterhole viewing from all accommodations, and 30 years of established reputation. The camp's founding membership in the Conservation & Wildlife Fund demonstrates conservation commitment beyond typical lodge operations.
