Tsavo East National Park

The best time to visit is during the dry seasons: June to October and January to February. These months offer optimal wildlife viewing as animals concentrate around water sources. The dry season provides excellent visibility for spotting the famous dust-red elephants, hippos, and predators. However, if you're interested in birdwatching, the rainy seasons (March-May and November-December) attract migratory birds and offer lush landscapes, though roads may be challenging.

Tsavo East is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) plus vast herds of dust-red elephants, hippo pods, giant Nile crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudu, gerenuk, and hirola antelope. The park also features prolific bird life with over 500 recorded bird species, making it exceptional for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.

Entry fees vary by visitor type (residents, non-residents, East African citizens). Vehicle charges per day range from KSH 300 for vehicles with less than 6 seats to KSH 5,000 for vehicles with 45+ seats. Guide charges are KSH 1,720 for up to 4 hours and KSH 3,015 for over 4 hours. Current exchange rates apply for USD payments.

A minimum of 3 days is recommended to properly explore the park and maximize wildlife viewing opportunities. This allows time for multiple game drives at different times of day (early morning and late afternoon are best for wildlife viewing), visits to different areas of the park, and relaxation. Longer stays of 4-5 days enable more comprehensive exploration and increase chances of encountering rare species.
