July to October (dry season) is optimal for wildlife viewing when vegetation is thin and animals gather around water sources. Temperatures range 18–24°C (64–75°F), making game drives comfortable. For turtle nesting and marine wildlife, visit October to March when leatherback and loggerhead turtles nest on beaches; hatchlings emerge December–May. November–March brings lush landscapes but sandy roads require 4x4 vehicles. Avoid April–June if traveling without high-clearance vehicles.

Maputo National Park hosts over 12,000 animals including 400+ African elephants (often seen in large herds), zebras, hippos, crocodiles, waterbuck, impalas, and antelope species. Over 500 bird species include kingfishers, fish eagles, and flamingos. Marine wildlife includes bottlenose dolphins (frequently spotted), humpback whales (July–November migration), and critically endangered leatherback turtles plus endangered loggerhead turtles (nesting October–March). The park is not home to lions, leopards, or buffalo.

Fly into Maputo International Airport (MPM), approximately 100 km from the park (1.5–2 hour drive). International connections available via Johannesburg or other African hubs.
