Best Safari Lodges Uganda 2027: Rates & Booking Guide

Last updated: November 2026

The best safari lodges in Uganda for 2027 include Bwindi Lodge, Kyambura Gorge Lodge, and Virunga Lodge. Low-season rates listed by Volcanoes Safaris run from $900 to $1,600 per person, with a $50 community fee. The best value comes during March to May and October 1 to December 14, when listed low-season rates apply.

Uganda's gorilla permit alone is reported at $800 for non-residents in 2026 and 2027, so lodge choice matters when planning a safari budget. This guide explains the Best Safari Lodges Uganda 2027: Rates and Booking Guide in plain terms. It focuses on current listed rates, key areas, and the costs that can change your final quote.

The goal is simple. You should know which lodge fits your route before you request prices. Uganda combines forest stays, primate tracking, national parks, and long road journeys. A lodge near Bwindi suits a gorilla trip. A lodge near Queen Elizabeth National Park suits game drives and chimpanzee activities.

Quick answer: The best lodge depends on your main activity. Bwindi Lodge starts at $900 per person in the listed 2027 low season. Kyambura Gorge Lodge starts at $995. Virunga Lodge starts at $1,340. Add permits, park fees, transport, meals, and community fees before comparing final safari quotes.

SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, packages, and authentic traveler reviews. You can use this guide to narrow your area first, then compare the full trip price rather than judging a lodge by its room rate alone.

What are the best safari lodges in Uganda for 2027?

The best safari lodges in Uganda for 2027 are Bwindi Lodge, Kyambura Gorge Lodge, and Virunga Lodge for travelers focused on forest wildlife and gorilla areas. Their listed low-season rates range from $900 to $1,600 per person. The right choice depends on your activity, route, comfort level, and total safari budget.

Overview of the main lodge choices

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is the strongest choice for travelers planning a gorilla trek. Bwindi Lodge Standard Banda costs $900 per person in the listed 2027 low season. The Deluxe Banda costs $1,185. Both rates are listed by Volcanoes Safaris.

Kyambura Gorge Lodge is a practical choice for a Queen Elizabeth area itinerary. Its Standard Banda costs $995 per person, while its Deluxe Banda costs $1,195 during the listed low season. The area works well for travelers who want lodge comfort near wildlife drives and forest activities.

Virunga Lodge is the highest-priced option in this group. The Standard Banda costs $1,340 per person, and the Deluxe Banda costs $1,600. Volcanoes Safaris lists the same amounts as single-traveler supplements for these room types.

Known for and best for

• Bwindi Lodge: Known for access to Bwindi gorilla trekking routes. Best for travelers who want the lowest listed lodge rate in this group.
• Kyambura Gorge Lodge: Known for its position in the Queen Elizabeth area. Best for combining lodge time with wildlife and primate activities.
• Virunga Lodge: Known for a higher-end stay near the Virunga region. Best for travelers who place more weight on lodge style and comfort.

These lodges are not interchangeable. A lower room rate does not always create a lower trip cost. Driving time, permits, park fees, and the number of nights can change the final amount by thousands of dollars.

What are the 2027 lodge rates and extra costs?

The listed 2027 low-season lodge rates run from $900 to $1,600 per person, before you add every trip cost. Bwindi Lodge Standard Banda is the least expensive listed option. Virunga Lodge Deluxe Banda is the highest. A $50 community fee applies to the listed Volcanoes Safaris lodge rates.

2027 low-season lodge comparison

Volcanoes Safaris applies these listed low-season dates from March 1 to May 31 and October 1 to December 14. The rate table gives you a useful starting point, but it does not represent the full cost of a Uganda safari.

Costs to add to your lodge budget

Gorilla permits are often the largest extra cost for a forest trip. SafariFind reports a 2026 to 2027 gorilla permit price of $800 for non-residents, $700 for residents, and $100 for East African Community citizens. Confirm the permit category and date in your quote before paying a deposit.

National park fees add another layer. TourRadar reports typical Uganda national park entrance fees of $40 to $150 per day. It also reports a $200 chimpanzee permit in Kibale. These fees make the activity list as important as the lodge list.

Private safari prices published by one Uganda operator start at about $1,348 per person for three days, $2,700 for seven days, and $3,713 for ten days. The figures exclude international flights. Use them as broad planning points, not as a substitute for a dated quote.

Request a quote from verified Uganda safari operators and compare lodge rates with permits and park fees included.

What the lodge price may not tell you

• Whether the rate covers transfers between Entebbe and the lodge.
• Whether gorilla or chimpanzee permits sit inside the package price.
• Whether park entrance fees apply on each day of your route.
• Whether the quote uses a shared vehicle or a private vehicle.
• Whether the price changes for a single room or solo traveler.

Ask for one total figure with a clear list of inclusions. This makes two lodge quotes much easier to compare.

How do you choose the right Uganda safari lodge?

Choose a Uganda safari lodge by matching the lodge area to your main activity. Bwindi suits gorilla trekking. Kyambura suits a Queen Elizabeth route. Virunga suits travelers seeking a higher listed room rate near the Virunga region. Route length matters because road transfers can take a large part of your trip.

Choose Bwindi for gorilla trekking

Bwindi Lodge is the clearest fit for a trip built around gorilla trekking. Its listed low-season rates start at $900 for a Standard Banda and rise to $1,185 for a Deluxe Banda. The lower starting rate can help protect your budget when the permit already costs $800 for a non-resident.

Travelers often make one mistake here. They compare the lodge rate but forget the permit. A $900 lodge rate and an $800 permit already total $1,700 before transport, meals, park costs, or other nights. Keep those figures separate on your planning sheet.

Choose Kyambura for a mixed wildlife route

Kyambura Gorge Lodge fits a route that combines lodge time with wildlife activities in the Queen Elizabeth area. The listed Standard Banda rate is $995, and the Deluxe Banda rate is $1,195 in the low season. This option suits travelers who want more than a single gorilla-focused stop.

Chimpanzee tracking can affect this route budget. TourRadar reports a Kibale chimpanzee permit price of $200 per person. Kibale and Kyambura are different areas, so ask your operator to name the exact activity and permit in the itinerary.

Choose Virunga for the higher room category

Virunga Lodge has the highest listed rates in this comparison. The Standard Banda costs $1,340, while the Deluxe Banda costs $1,600. The lodge suits travelers who want to spend more on the accommodation part of their forest route.

Virunga Lodge may make sense for a special trip, but the rate difference deserves a close look. The Deluxe rate is $260 above the Standard rate. Compare that difference with a private vehicle, an extra night, or another activity before you decide.

Consider the route, not only the room

Uganda is a large safari destination with different travel zones. A lodge can look affordable until long transfers add cost and time. Ask your operator how many nights you spend in each area and which activities are included each day.

• Use Bwindi for a gorilla-first itinerary.
• Use Kyambura for a mixed wildlife and primate route.
• Use Virunga when the lodge itself is a major part of the trip.
• Choose a three-day, seven-day, or ten-day plan based on your available time.
• Compare single-traveler terms before assuming a shared rate applies.

How should you book a Uganda lodge for 2027?

Book a Uganda lodge by fixing your activity, travel dates, permit needs, and room type before comparing operators. Start with the lodge area, then request a quote that lists every inclusion. The best booking method is a written comparison with lodge, permits, transport, park fees, meals, and payment terms.

Getting started

1. Choose your main activity, such as gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, or game drives.
2. Select the area that matches that activity.
3. Check whether your dates fall inside the listed low-season periods.
4. Choose Standard or Deluxe accommodation.
5. Ask for a full per-person price and a single-traveler price.
6. Read recent traveler reviews before you pay.

March to May and October 1 to December 14 are the listed low-season dates for the Volcanoes Safaris rates in this guide. These dates can help you compare the published low-season figures. Availability and final package prices still depend on the dates and itinerary you request.

Questions to ask before paying

• Is the gorilla permit included, and which permit category applies?
• Is the $50 community fee included in the displayed total?
• How many nights does the rate cover?
• Does the package include road transfers and a safari vehicle?
• Are national park fees included for every park day?
• What happens if a permit date or lodge date changes?

Solo travelers should pay close attention to room rules. Volcanoes Safaris lists Virunga Lodge Standard and Deluxe single-traveler supplements at $1,340 and $1,600. Those figures show why a solo quote should be compared separately rather than estimated from a shared-room price.

Best booking practices

Keep your budget in two parts. The first part covers fixed activity costs, such as a gorilla permit. The second covers flexible trip costs, such as lodge category, vehicle type, and extra nights.

Save the written quote and check each line before making payment. A clear quote reduces surprises. It also lets you compare two operators on the same terms.

If you are planning a couples trip, compare the lodge with a full forest itinerary. This guide to Bwindi gorilla trekking for couples in 2027 can help you think beyond the room rate.

Families should check room layouts and activity rules before booking. A family lodge guide lists options such as family suites, swimming pools, boat cruises, and game drives at selected Uganda lodges. Match those features to your group rather than assuming every lodge offers the same setup.

Conclusion

The best safari lodges in Uganda for 2027 start at $900 per person in the listed low season and reach $1,600 for the highest Virunga Lodge category. Bwindi Lodge is the best starting point for a gorilla-focused trip. Kyambura Gorge Lodge fits a mixed wildlife route. Virunga Lodge suits travelers who want to spend more on the lodge stay.

Build your budget around the full trip. A non-resident gorilla permit is reported at $800, while private seven-day safari prices start at about $2,700 per person before international flights. Park fees and chimpanzee permits can add more.

Compare verified safari packages on SafariFind and request your 2027 Uganda lodge quote. Read authentic reviews, compare tour operators, and check every inclusion before paying. In 2027, a careful lodge choice will help you spend more time in the forest and less time sorting out unexpected costs.
