Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park was established in 2019 and represents the northern portion of what was previously the Selous Game Reserve. The park was renamed in honor of Julius Kambarage Nyerere, Tanzania's first president. The remaining southern portion continues as Selous Game Reserve. The conversion to national park status provides enhanced protection and stricter conservation measures to combat poaching and preserve the ecosystem.
