Booking a trip during Covid 19 is a risk and this company were more than accommodating and patient. James was helpful through and provided me with any information requested. Derrick was my guide in uganda, his knowledge made me feel at home and his sense of humour was perfect for an English person. Even when off duty and during the evenings the tour felt like a home from home.

We came across Saunterland on the internet in March 2021 when we arrived in Nairobi. Reliable, affordable, friendly and expert guides, fully tailored itineraries... We just finished our major holiday this year - our 8th trip with them so far. 10 days taking in Samburu, Meru, Ol Pajeta, Nakuru and the Masai Mara. Utterly FABULOUS! Exceptional lodges, crazy sightings: lions feasting, leopards, cheetahs, even a serval cat hunting; tustling elephants, jousting white rhinos, necking giraffes, impala bucks clashing, a showdown between a hunting jackel and a defensive topi (the topi won, of course); browsing black rhinos, crocs chilling themselves in a waterfall, banded mongooses just chilling, hippos frisking in the rain; kudu, eland, gazelles (Grant's and Thompson), generuks, dik diks, zebras (Common and Grevy), waterbuck, steinbuck; dinners with bush babies gorging on safari ants and bats swooping in for moths and bugs; dung beetles, geckos, hyraxes... over 130 species of birds. A photographer's paradise, an incredible privilege. Kenya's National Parks are truly a Wonder of the World!

Timely, organized, affordable and the best service received

Everything was very well organized though under short notice. The driver,patrick, was conversant with the whole drive and we'll informed of the species found. The drive was superb and comfortable. Did not experience any problem along the way. The guide/driver made sure we at least saw all the animals found there and had a wonderful time while there.

Max is Amazing!

I went on a private guided tour with Max who was amazing. He had a sixth sense aware of the animals would be including the big five. Max was especially great at finding liens. Max found us prides of lions, giraffes, elephants and other animals in groups of 10 to 25. Use Max or you will probably drive around wasting your time. Cannot recommend Max enough.

LUXURIOUS, PROFESSIONAL, FUN and EASY ON THE POCKETS!

I found out about Saunterland from a work colleague. I am originally from Kenya so done safari multiple times using other tour companies but I had some friends traveling in from the US for just 5 days and wanted to really make this memorable for them and Saunterland did not disappoint. James helped us finalize the booking so close to the actual travel date since we had to delay due to some visa issues. All this was done so effortlessly and his responses were prompt and informative. He provided me with several options and walked me through which he would recommend and why . Our Safari tour guide was Ken and as someone who has done several of these , he is the best I have toured with so far. he was professional but relatable . He knew the answers to all the questions and has vast knowledge about the land and the animals . We also ran into several snafus and Ken handled everything like a pro. AND he did a tiktok video with us ... :) In short , Our Mara trip was phenomenal and my best one yet!

Wonferful 7-days safari in Samburu, Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara

Well, this was really a great safari ! A soon as we asked for a quote, we got quickly a proposition from James. James was able to help us and customized our safari without any problem, with a pick up directly at the airport. The hotels included in the safari were perfect, we only asked to change the one in Masai Mara for a camp (Il Kiliany Camp). John, our guide during the safari, was one of the best driver we ever met. We had quite a lot of rain, and the reserves were incredibly muddy, but even with a van, we never get stuck. An thanks to John, we were able to see all the Big Five ! So don't hesitate to choose Saunterland, you won't be disappointed !

Great Kenya and Tanzania safari experience

Just finished a safari with Saunterland team in both Kenya and Tanzania. The communication with James via email and whatsapp was prompt and professional. James curated a 12 day safari starting in Nairobi and ending in Arusha. We did Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara in Kenya and proceeded to Serengeti, Ngorongoro and ended in Tarangire. The vehicles were clean. The driver who also served as guides had an indepth knowledge of the parks, wildlife and various cultures. Definitely it was an amazing experience to us!

We have just returned from an amazing holiday, organised in conjunction with Saunterland Tours, who worked with ourselves to put together a personalised itinerary This included feeding the Giraffes,the Karen Blixen house (Out of Africa), Elsamere the former home of Joy Adamson (Born Free), a balloon flight in Masai Mara, to visiting sights that inspired many scenes in Lion King, (pride rock, the echo wall of sound) Our guide Simon Gathai, looked after us for the full trip, even selecting a guide for Mount Longonot who gently encouraged us during the accent, to checking out the driver collecting us for the balloon flight.It was good to have a guide who was so knowledgeable not only on the area but the wildlife Nothing was left to chance. He managed to be in the right place, for a very close encounter with a lioness, and finding the elusive leopard, ensuring we saw not only the big 5 but the Ugly 5, plus so much more. We ended with beers and nibbles in the Masai Mara park while the sun was setting on our holiday. Sautnerland tours did everything possible to ensure the trip was on eto remember from making sure we were kept hydrated with the supply of good clean water and personalised water bottles, even contacting ourselves during the trip to ensure everything was as expected.

A dream come true

We chose Saunterland Africa Tours to do the safari of our honeymoon and it could not have been a more successful idea! With James (the owner ) we have a fantastic communication and he cares a lot that his clients are happy and their safaris adjust to their requests, everything was adapted to our ideas and budget, as soon as our guide Alex we only have words of thanks, thanks to him we were able to see the big 5 and everything was explained in our language (Spanish) he works hard to find all the animals and take you to beautiful places, he was also very polite and also funny, we will never forget you Alex thank you for all! Both are great professionals who care that your trip is perfect. The Saunterland team made our dream come true, they are 100% recommended and we will choose them again on our next safari. 5 star tour

In November 2023, my sister and I decided to book two 1-day tours on short notice before leaving Kenya. We went to Ol-Pejeta the first day and the Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Centre the second day. Communication with James via WhatsApp was always very prompt and professional. We were able to book our tours with only 48 hours notice! Sooo lucky! Both tours were fantastic. Our drive to Ol-Pejeta from Nairobi was beautiful. We really enjoyed the Conservancy, the included lunch and the company of our guide, Daniel. He was so cool. The Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Centre were also a great experience. Overall, we can’t recommend Saunterland Tours enough. A great value for the experience. I’ll definitely be reaching out to them on my next visit to Kenya.

Exceptional experience!

Pre-Arrival: We had a trip planned to Sint Maarten but had to cancel last minute. We decided to go to Kenya instead and got in touch with James from Saunterland Safaris a few days before arrival. James was able to plan our private safari and the booking process was very efficient. Pickup & Transportation to and from Mara: Our safari guide Gibson met us in the hotel lobby in Nairobi at the mentioned time and was very courteous. He was knowledgeable and even before reaching Masai Mara he took every opportunity to show us relevant and cultural things about Kenya on our way to Mara. We opted for the Safari Land Cruiser and it was spacious, had sockets for phones and anything you need power for, and a pop-off roof which was excellent for game viewing. Alternately, you can ask James to help with tickets if you want to fly into Mara. This is a more comfortable and faster option and that way you can preserve energy for the actual game drives and your trip after/before the actual safari. Game Drives: Masai Mara is a lovely place and a lot of safari enthusiasts probably know a lot about wildlife and animal behavior. This is where Gibson shone as an experienced safari guide, he was knowledgeable and knew where to find the game. He also educated us about animal behaviors that we were unaware of despite watching many documentaries on the subject and reading the books. We saw a lot of giraffes, lions, hippos, cheetahs (the famous band of brothers that has appeared on many documentaries), leopards, and a baby leopard which was so lovely. The cherry on the cake was being able to see a Black Rhino mother with a baby Rhino. Gibson knew the hot spots to spot the less spotted game and has observed their behavior so he was able to time our drive and take us to an area where the sighting was much more likely. We had breakfast in the bush on one of the days. After our Rhino spotting, we had a lovely bottle of wine that Gibson, our guide got us, overlooking the Mara Sunset which was breathtaking. The day our game drive was supposed to be early, Gibson already made sure our lunch boxes were ordered, keeping our dietary preferences in mind and it is these little touches that made it a memorable experience. Accommodation: We stayed at Ashnil Mara and it was very nice. There is a range of accommodation choices available which James can help you plan. For us, Ashnil was very nice and comfortable and we are used to staying at good hotels (read Ritz-Carlton, St Regis, One&Only, etc). For the price, we were impressed with the service. Overall: I recommend Saunteralnd for booking your safari experience without reservation. We will use them whenever we travel to the East Africa Region (they also have safaris in Tanzania and Uganda I believe). The price we paid was very reasonable and we think it was a great trip for two people (we paid less than 600$ per person) and honestly, the experience far exceeded what we paid. I am sure prices change with the season and may be different (we traveled in May 2021, so it wasn’t a busy time) We had one spare day in Nairobi and we booked Gibson again to show us around and got a photoshoot done. Highly recommend a day of photography which James can organize for you. The safari car rental for the whole day all-inclusive costs us $180 minus the photographer.

Fantastic day trip to Amboseli

Had a great day trip from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park. The entire day went very smooth, from pick up at 5am to drop off in the evening. Patrick the driver took care of everything, communicated with other guides on where lions were spotted etc. and was very happy to accommodate any requests I had. We saw plenty of animals, from zebra, wildebeest, water buffalo, hippos to gazelles, giraffes, hyena, lions, jackals, vultures and most of all elephants, more than I had imagined. Also the lunch at the lodge inside the Park was excellent.

A beautiful day in Aboseli

We have had a wonderful day. The safari guide was very helpful and also told us a lot about the sighted animals. On our next trip to Kenya we will definitely book again, should we intend to go on a safari. Also, the booking process was easy and good and quick to reach via WhatsApp for questions and information

We booked a four-night safari with Saunterland Africa Tours, and from the very beginning, our experience was excellent. Communication with James was perfect. He helped us choose a wonderful itinerary and created a beautiful route. He even assisted us with booking train tickets to Mombasa after the safari, which was incredibly helpful. Once in Kenya, everything was arranged and organized flawlessly. We were picked up from the airport and driven straight to the Maasai Mara. Our driver and guide, Jeremy, was extremely kind, professional, and knowledgeable. He did his very best every day to show us as many animals as possible, and most importantly, he always showed great respect for nature and wildlife. We had two full days in the Maasai Mara and one full day at Lake Nakuru. And yes—we were lucky enough to see the Big Five and many, many more animals! Since it was our honeymoon, Jeremy went the extra mile and even arranged a romantic picnic inside the Maasai Mara with wine. It truly couldn’t have been more special. All the accommodations we stayed at during the safari were excellent, with friendly and welcoming staff. And the food was amazing!! Throughout the trip, James regularly checked in to make sure everything was going well. We are so happy that we chose Saunterland Africa Tours and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an unforgettable safari experience.

Very professional and knowledgeable.

Loved almost everything about it. The food at Zebra Camp was about a 7 out of 10, They tried too hard to serve American type food in my opinion. The lodge and staff were top flight. One could not put a coffee cup down for a minute without it getting whisked away.
