Positioned to maximize privacy while maintaining lodge proximity.
Two-Bedroom Canopy Villa
Luxury family or group accommodation featuring master bedroom with four-poster king bed and second bedroom with twin beds. Both rooms include wood-burning stoves, private decks, and en-suite bathrooms with twin vanities, walk-in showers, and standalone baths. Positioned between dense forest and lush tea fields with expansive views. Suitable for families or groups of 3-4 guests.
One&Only Nyungwe House is accessible via three methods: (1) Road transfer from Kigali International Airport (4-5 hours via paved highways, clearly signposted); (2) Charter flight from Kigali via Kamembe Airport (35-40 minutes flight + 45-minute ground transfer); (3) Helicopter transfer from Kigali (30 minutes direct). Airport transfers are included in all room rates. The lodge is also accessible as a multi-day extension from gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park (approximately 4 hours by road).
One&Only Nyungwe House operates year-round. Dry seasons (January-February and June-September) offer the most comfortable trekking with lower rainfall and improved trail conditions. Wet seasons (March-May and October-December) provide lush forest conditions and excellent bird watching, though trails can be muddy. The forest's high elevation (1,600-2,950 meters) maintains cool temperatures year-round (average 18-22°C), so bring layers. There are no seasonal closures.
One&Only Nyungwe House rates range from $1,400–$2,070 per person per night based on low to high season, with pricing for two guests sharing. This is a full-board rate including all meals, all safari activities, Wi-Fi, laundry, and airport transfers. Children aged 2-12 receive reduced rates; children under 2 stay free. The lodge is classified as Premium Luxury accommodation.
One&Only Nyungwe House welcomes families with specific age considerations. Children aged 2-12 receive reduced rates; children under 2 stay complimentary. However, minimum age 15 is required for guided chimpanzee and Colobus monkey treks—the primary wildlife activities. Children under 15 may participate in guided nature walks, bird watching, and the Canopy Walk. The Two-Bedroom Canopy Villa accommodates families of 3-4 guests with separate en-suite bathrooms.
Nyungwe Forest National Park protects 13 primate species, the primary focus of One&Only Nyungwe House. Guests encounter habituated chimpanzees (whose dawn vocalizations echo through the forest), Colobus monkeys in troops of 40-80 individuals, and 11 other primate species. The park hosts 275 bird species including nearly 30 Albertine Rift endemics, plus endemic orchids, butterflies, frogs, and amphibians. The forest does not support Big Five species; wildlife viewing is exclusively foot-based rather than vehicle-based.
All activities are included in room rates: guided chimpanzee treks (3-6 hours), Colobus monkey trekking, forest/nature walks with naturalist guides, bird watching, access to the Canopy Walk (suspended bridge system), waterfall hiking, and cultural visits to tea plantation communities. All activities feature professional guides and are weather-dependent. Activities are foot-based; vehicle-based game drives are not offered. Children under 15 cannot participate in primate treks but may join nature walks and the Canopy Walk.
Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout One&Only Nyungwe House, including in all suites and common areas. This is included in room rates. Mobile signal may be limited in some areas of the property due to the remote forest location.
Nyungwe Forest's elevation (1,600-2,950 meters) and cool climate (18-22°C average) require appropriate clothing layers. Primate treks involve multi-hour hiking on occasionally muddy forest trails; moderate to high physical fitness is required. Malaria risk is lower at elevation but antimalarial precautions should be discussed with a travel medicine provider. Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for entry to Rwanda. The lodge provides mosquito nets and generator backup power. Guests should consult their doctor regarding altitude acclimatization.
One&Only Nyungwe House is the most upscale accommodation in Nyungwe Forest National Park, featuring 22 suites with fireplaces, full spa, infinity pool, and full-service gym—amenities absent from most competing Rwanda lodges. Unlike gorilla-focused properties in Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe House specializes in forest-based primate trekking and offers multi-day immersion in a montane rainforest ecosystem. It appeals to luxury travelers seeking adventure beyond vehicle-based game drives. Competing options include Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel (4-star, $320/pppn) and Gisakura Guest House (3-star, $90/pppn), both offering lower-cost alternatives with less comprehensive amenities.
