July to November is generally the best period for access, lower river levels and wildlife viewing near the Zambezi. February to May produces higher water and stronger falls after the rains, but wet-season roads can be slower and visitor numbers are usually lower.

The community park received eight waterbuck, 36 impala, 10 red lechwe and 11 puku from Kafue National Park in 2015. The wider Sioma Ngwezi landscape also supports species such as hippopotamus, elephant, buffalo and sitatunga, but Ngonye Falls is not promoted as a Big Five viewing destination.

Ngonye Falls is near Sioma in southwestern Zambia and lies about 132 kilometres north of Katima Mulilo. Two to three days allows time for the waterfall, a river activity, camping and a short wildlife excursion in the surrounding area. One night works as a route stop, while three days suits travelers combining Ngonye Falls with Sioma Ngwezi National Park.
