Netherlands Embassy in Kenya: Dutch Consular Help 2026

For Dutch travellers planning Kenya safari packages, the Netherlands embassy in Nairobi is the main Dutch diplomatic mission in the country. It is at Block B, Keystone Park, 95 Riverside Drive, Nairobi. Consular visits are by appointment, and the embassy lists a Nairobi telephone number, a Netherlands contact number and a WhatsApp channel for questions.

If your passport disappears during a safari, contact the embassy as soon as you can. EU rules provide for an EU Emergency Travel Document after identity and nationality checks, normally within seven working days, for a single journey in the circumstances covered by the rules.

Quick answer: where is the Netherlands embassy in Kenya?

The Netherlands embassy in Nairobi is at Block B, Keystone Park, 95 Riverside Drive, Nairobi. The embassy's official contact page lists +254 20 428 8000 as its Nairobi phone number, while NetherlandsWorldwide lists +31 247 247 247 for callers in the Netherlands. Consular services are available by appointment only.

• Address: Block B, Keystone Park, 95 Riverside Drive, Nairobi, Kenya.
• Nairobi telephone: +254 20 428 8000.
• Telephone from the Netherlands: +31 247 247 247.
• WhatsApp: add +31 857 737 400, then send a private WhatsApp message. The number cannot receive calls or ordinary text messages. Do not send a passport copy or citizen service number through WhatsApp.
• Appointments: the embassy's NetherlandsWorldwide page says the front desk is by appointment only.

The embassy can direct Dutch nationals to Dutch government consular services, including travel-document services. It is not a substitute for your safari operator, insurer, doctor or local emergency service. For a lost passport, do not wait until your airport transfer or park departure. Start the consular process immediately because identity checks and document production take time.

Contact details and opening hours

The embassy's contact page lists office hours of Monday to Thursday from 8:00 to 16:30 and Friday from 8:00 to 14:30. NetherlandsWorldwide separately says that visits to the front desk are by appointment only, so do not treat those office hours as walk-in consular hours.

The embassy page says questions about consular services, such as travel documents, visas, Dutch passports and certificates of residence, should go through NetherlandsWorldwide rather than the general embassy contact form. That matters if you are arranging a safari from the Netherlands and need a document answer before paying a deposit. Put the document issue first, then ask your tour operator to hold or adjust the itinerary if necessary.

Registering your trip

Dutch travellers should check the NetherlandsWorldwide travel registration service before departure and follow the current advice for Kenya. Registration gives the Dutch government a way to send relevant messages to registered travellers. Use the official NetherlandsWorldwide service rather than relying on a safari company to monitor consular updates.

Keep your registration details current if your route changes. A safari itinerary can move between Nairobi, conservancies and the coast, so include the places and dates you actually expect to visit. Carry an offline copy of your passport identification page, insurance policy and emergency contacts, but do not send sensitive documents through the embassy's WhatsApp channel.

Registration is separate from booking. Your operator can arrange transfers, park logistics and accommodation, but it cannot replace Dutch consular registration or make decisions for the embassy. Before confirming a remote camp, check how you would reach Nairobi if you lost your passport or needed medical help.

Lost or stolen passport: step by step

If your Dutch passport is lost, stolen or destroyed in Kenya, contact the Netherlands embassy promptly and ask which current document route applies to your case. EU rules state that a Member State can issue an EU Emergency Travel Document to an EU citizen whose passport has been lost, stolen or destroyed, or cannot be obtained within a reasonable time.

1. Get somewhere safe. Move away from the immediate incident and protect your remaining documents, phone and money.
2. Contact the embassy. Use the official Nairobi phone number or the NetherlandsWorldwide contact route. Ask for an appointment and the current application instructions.
3. Collect proof of identity. The EU process asks applicants to provide available identification, such as an identity card or driving licence. Bring any available copy of the passport details page as well.
4. Prepare for identity and nationality checks. The issuing Member State verifies the applicant's identity and nationality with the applicant's country of nationality.
5. Attend the appointment. The process includes an application form and a photograph. The embassy will tell you the current form, supporting documents and payment instructions for your case.
6. Rework the itinerary. The EU Emergency Travel Document is for a single journey to the holder's EU Member State of nationality or residence, or exceptionally another destination allowed under the rules. It is not a normal replacement passport for continuing an open-ended safari.
7. Allow time. In normal cases, the EU says the procedure should not take longer than seven working days. Do not build a same-day international connection around that maximum.

A lost passport can disrupt a park transfer even when the document process goes smoothly. Tell your safari operator as soon as you know that your travel dates may change. Ask the operator to preserve the booking information while you deal with the embassy, but take the document decision from the embassy itself.

Arrest, medical emergencies and evacuation

If police arrest or detain you, or if you become seriously ill, contact the Netherlands embassy through its official channels and follow local instructions. The embassy's published contact information is the starting point for Dutch consular questions in Kenya.

Consular staff cannot make a safari camp, airline or insurer provide a service on demand. For medical treatment, contact local medical professionals and your travel insurer. For evacuation, use the assistance number and procedure in your insurance policy, then keep the embassy informed if you need consular help with documents or communication.

Before leaving Nairobi, save the embassy phone number in your phone and on paper. Remote camps may have limited signal, and a dead phone is a poor time to search for an official number. Give your operator your insurer's emergency details, but do not assume that the operator has authority to approve medical evacuation or replace a passport.

For a serious incident, record your location as precisely as possible. Include the camp or lodge name, nearest airstrip, booking reference and a reachable phone number. That information helps the embassy, operator and insurer understand where you are without turning a stressful call into a long explanation.

What is the current travel advice level for Kenya?

Check the current Kenya travel advice on NederlandWereldwijd immediately before departure. The material available for this article confirms the official Dutch contact routes, but it does not provide a current colour-coded advice level, so travellers should not rely on a copied rating in a safari article.

Read the advice again when your route changes. A plan covering Nairobi, a private conservancy and the coast may raise different practical questions from a short city stay. Ask your operator how transfers work, whether a route crosses areas covered by specific warnings and what its emergency communications plan is. The operator handles trip logistics. The Dutch government advice remains the reference for Dutch travellers.
