Hippo Lodge

Hippo Lodge is located in Kafue National Park, Zambia's largest protected area at 22,400 square kilometers. The lodge sits in the park's northern region, approximately 400 kilometers southwest of Lusaka and 300 kilometers from Livingstone.

Hippo Lodge is accessed via charter flight from Lusaka (approximately 1.5 hours) or Livingstone (approximately 1 hour), followed by road transfer. Overland transfers from Livingstone take 8-10 hours by vehicle. International travelers typically fly through Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Lusaka or Livingstone International Airport.

Hippo Lodge typically operates during Kafue's dry season from April through October. Peak wildlife viewing occurs May-August when water sources concentrate animals. June-August offers optimal game drive conditions with minimal vegetation obstruction. September-October provides excellent birding opportunities and fewer tourists.

Kafue National Park supports all major Zambian wildlife species including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hyena, wild dog, and various antelope species. The park's bird list exceeds 400 species, making it a premier African birding destination. Wildlife viewing occurs during guided game drives and walking safaris.

Primary activities include twice-daily guided game drives, walking safaris led by experienced guides, bird watching excursions, and wildlife photography. Night drives may be available depending on seasonal operations and park regulations.

Walking safaris typically require a minimum age due to safety and wildlife encounter protocols. Game drives may accommodate younger children depending on operator policies. Specific age requirements and family arrangements should be confirmed directly with the lodge.
