Spain Embassy in Kenya: Help for Spanish Travellers 2026

Last checked October 2026 — always confirm with official sources before travelling.

The Embassy of Spain in Nairobi is Spain's diplomatic mission for Spanish travellers in Kenya safari packages. Its published telephone numbers are +254 20 272 02 22/3/4/5 when calling from Kenya and +254 20 272 02 22/3/4/5 when calling from Spain. For a life-threatening situation, seek local emergency help first, then contact the embassy or the Spanish foreign ministry through its current official channels.

Consular staff can provide guidance after events such as a lost passport, serious illness, arrest, detention, serious accident, crime or the death of a traveller. They cannot replace a travel insurer, pay private bills or take over a local legal case.

Quick answer: where is the Spanish Embassy in Kenya?

The Embassy of Spain in Kenya is in Nairobi, at 3rd Floor, CBA Building, Mara and Ragati Roads, Upper Hill. The official listing gives the email address emb.nairobi@maec.es and the telephone number 0733 63 11 44 when calling from Kenya, or +254 733 63 11 44 when calling from Spain.

Need	What to do
Life-threatening emergency	Get immediate help from local emergency services, then contact the embassy or your insurer.
Lost or stolen passport	Report the loss to Kenyan police, preserve the police report and contact the embassy for travel-document guidance.
Arrest or detention	Ask Kenyan authorities to notify the Spanish consular section and request consular contact.
Medical crisis	Use local medical services and your travel-insurance assistance line. The embassy can provide consular guidance, but it does not become your medical provider.
Routine question	Email or telephone the embassy before travelling to Nairobi. Confirm appointment rules and opening hours before visiting.

Consular help is not a way to bypass Kenyan law. Spanish officials can communicate with you and explain available consular support, but local authorities retain responsibility for policing, courts and medical care.

Contact details and opening hours

The Embassy of Spain is at 3rd Floor, CBA Building, Mara and Ragati Roads, Upper Hill, Nairobi. The published email is emb.nairobi@maec.es. The official European Union listing gives +254 733 63 11 44 from Spain and 0733 63 11 44 from Kenya.

Spain's embassy directory also lists +254 20 272 02 22/3/4/5 from Spain and 020 272 02 22/3/4/5 from Kenya, with fax number +254 20 272 02 26 from Spain and 020 272 02 26 from Kenya.

Confirm the current opening hours, appointment requirements and after-hours emergency procedure before setting out. A safari itinerary can place you far from Nairobi, and a phone call before travelling is easier than trying to arrange help after a lost passport or hospital admission.

The embassy is the relevant Spanish diplomatic mission identified in the supplied official listings for Spanish citizens in Kenya. The research does not establish a separate Spanish consulate elsewhere in the country, so travellers should use the Nairobi mission as their starting point.

Registering your trip

Spanish travellers should look for Spain's current traveller registration service on the official foreign ministry website before departure. Use it to provide itinerary and contact information if the service is available for your trip, then save the embassy's telephone number offline. Confirm the current registration process directly with Spain's official channels before relying on it.

Registration does not replace travel insurance, copies of your passport or a sensible emergency plan. Keep a secure digital copy of your passport identification page, visa or entry record, insurance policy and important medical information. Do not store all of those documents only on your phone. If the phone disappears with your luggage, you may lose access to the details you need.

For a safari, share your route with a trusted person at home. Include the first Nairobi hotel, the operator's contact details, domestic flight information and the camps or conservancies on the route. This is especially useful if you travel through remote areas and cannot reach the embassy quickly.

Lost or stolen passport: what should you do?

If your passport disappears in Kenya, report the loss or theft to the Kenyan police, keep the report or reference details, and contact the Embassy of Spain in Nairobi as soon as possible. Consular staff can explain the document options available after they establish your identity and nationality.

1. Move to safety. If the theft happened during a robbery or other dangerous incident, leave the area and seek immediate local help. Do not return alone to confront anyone.
2. Make a police report. Ask for written proof or a reference number. Keep photographs of the report if you can.
3. Contact the embassy. Use +254 733 63 11 44, 0733 63 11 44 or the published embassy numbers, and explain where you are, what was lost and when your next journey is due.
4. Gather identity evidence. Prepare any remaining identity document, a copy of the passport, a national identity card, travel booking and passport photographs if available. The embassy will confirm the exact documents it requires.
5. Tell your insurer and safari operator. Insurance may assist with replacement-document costs, transport or changes to the itinerary. Your operator can help you reach Nairobi or adjust a park transfer, but it cannot issue a Spanish travel document.
6. Do not travel on assumptions. Ask the embassy whether the document issued is suitable for your intended route and whether airlines or border authorities require anything else.

The European Union describes emergency travel documents as a possible form of consular protection when an EU citizen's passport has been lost, stolen or destroyed, or cannot be obtained within a reasonable time. The document is for a single journey to the holder's EU country of nationality or residence, or, in exceptional cases, another destination. Ask the embassy what applies to your circumstances before changing flights.

Arrest, medical emergencies and evacuation

What can Spanish consular staff do after an arrest?

Spanish consular staff can help you understand how to request consular contact, communicate with you and provide information about local procedures. Consular protection can cover arrest or detention, but it does not cancel Kenyan proceedings or secure release.

If arrested, ask Kenyan authorities to notify the Spanish Embassy. Do not sign a document you do not understand. Ask for an interpreter or a lawyer where available, and tell the consular officer about medication, injuries or urgent family concerns. Consular officials cannot act as your lawyer, decide the case or interfere with the local court process.

What happens after a serious illness or accident?

Consular protection can include assistance after a serious accident or serious illness. It can also include guidance during an emergency evacuation or repatriation situation. Medical treatment remains the responsibility of local health providers and your insurer.

Call your insurance assistance service as soon as possible. Check whether the policy covers treatment, air ambulance transport, evacuation from a park, a companion's travel and changes to the safari booking. Safari camps and operators can help coordinate local transport, but the insurer normally decides whether evacuation is authorised and paid for.

If you have a serious medical condition, carry a written medication list and details of allergies. Tell your guide and accommodation team what help you may need before leaving Nairobi. The embassy can offer consular guidance, but it cannot guarantee a hospital bed, pay a bill or arrange every part of a private evacuation.

What if a traveller dies in Kenya?

The death of a family member or travel companion is among the situations in which EU consular protection may help. Contact the embassy and the travel insurer immediately. Officials can explain the consular steps and help relatives understand the next administrative actions, while local authorities and the insurer handle their respective responsibilities.

What is the current travel advice level for Kenya from exteriores.gob.es?

Check the current Kenya travel advice on Spain's official foreign ministry website immediately before departure. The research supplied for this article identifies the Embassy of Spain in Nairobi and its contact details, but it does not provide a verified 2026 risk-level label or the current wording of Spain's Kenya advice. Do not infer a travel advice level from an old search result or from another government's advice.

Read the advice again before travelling between regions, because your safari route may cross Nairobi, national parks, coastal areas and remote roads. Save the page or download the current advice if the official site allows it. Then check your insurance policy against the places and activities on your itinerary.

Should You Book Your Kenya Safari Online or Enquire First?

Use an online booking page to compare available trips, then enquire before paying when you need to confirm dates, park access, transfers, dietary requirements, medical needs or passport-related timing. The embassy cannot check a safari operator's availability or hold a camp booking.

If you lose a passport or need consular help before departure, resolve the document issue before committing to a non-refundable itinerary. You can also compare planning guidance in Italy Embassy in Kenya: Help for Italian Travellers 2026 and Netherlands Embassy in Kenya: Dutch Consular Help 2026. The consular principles are similar, but Spanish citizens should rely on Spain's embassy for their own case.

Should I book safaris in advance or once I reach Kenya?

Book in advance if your dates, accommodation, flights or park arrangements matter, and ask the operator what can be changed if a consular or travel-document problem delays you. Booking after arrival may give you more flexibility, but the embassy does not arrange safari space, transport or refunds.

Before paying, keep the operator's written cancellation terms and emergency contact details. If you are comparing a longer route, resources such as 7-Day Maasai Mara Safari Itinerary: 2027 Costs by Budget can help you think through timing and logistics, but confirm every current detail with the operator.
