April to September is generally the best time to visit Blyde River Canyon because dry weather improves visibility and hiking conditions. Johannesburg is roughly a four-to-five-hour drive, and Orpen Gate in Kruger is about 1.5 to two hours away.

Blyde River Canyon suits families who can follow strict safety rules around cliffs, water, and slippery rocks. Viewpoints, boat cruises, short walks, and nearby family lodges work well for children, but trail suitability and boat age limits vary by provider. Adults should supervise children closely because many viewpoints have steep drop-offs and limited barriers.
