Most multi-day packages from Addis Ababa (3-5 days) cost $1,320-2,500 per person including accommodation, meals, guided activities, and transportation. Park entry is typically included with lodge stays; boat safaris cost $20-40 per person.

October to March is optimal, when afternoon temperatures are mild (15-28°C/59-82°F), rainfall is minimal, and wildlife concentrates around water sources. December to February represents peak season with the driest conditions and busiest lodges. Shoulder months (October-November and March) offer excellent value with fewer tourists. June to September experiences higher rainfall, lower visibility, and reduced wildlife viewing quality, though prices drop significantly.

The lakes region hosts over 230 bird species, including African fish eagles, wattled ibis, pink-winged pelicans, and greater flamingos. Hippos and Nile crocodiles are abundant in Lakes Chamo and Ziway, visible on morning boat safaris. Mammals include olive and hamadryas baboons, lesser kudu, Beisa oryx, and golden jackals in surrounding savanna. The region is a premier birding destination but does not host Big Five wildlife.

Fly into Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD), then drive 4-5 hours south via paved Ethiopian Highway 4 to reach Lake Langano (160 km) or 8-10 hours to Lake Chamo (220 km near Arba Minch). Alternative: fly into Arba Minch Airport (GME) and drive 2-3 hours north. Most safari operators include airport transfers and transportation from Addis Ababa in package prices. Self-driving is possible with a 4x4 vehicle and Ethiopian driving permit.
