Chobe Safari Itinerary 2027: 5 Days, Cost & Route

Last updated: October 2026

A Chobe Safari Itinerary 2027: 5 Days, Route and Cost usually starts at $1,699 per person for an advertised Botswana safari journey. Plan for game drives, a Chobe River activity, and arrival time in Chobe National Park. Listed lodge stays cost $400 to $900 per person per night, with December 2027 departures listed at $2,099 to $3,799 per person.

Chobe National Park is home to the world's largest elephant population, according to one listed Chobe safari tour. That fact explains why a five-day trip works so well. You can spend enough time on land and water without turning the safari into a two-week journey.

Chobe Safari Itinerary 2027: 5 Days, Route and Cost is a practical planning guide for a short Botswana trip. It explains what to do each day, how the route fits together, and what the published prices mean. The plan focuses on Chobe National Park and the Chobe Riverfront.

In 2027, advertised Botswana safari journeys start at $1,699 per person. Lodge stays can cost $400 to $900 per person per night, so the final total depends on accommodation, transfers, activities, and travel dates. A careful comparison matters, especially for a short trip.

The route below is a planning framework, not a fixed booking. Your operator may change the order of activities. Road Scholar, for example, lists longer 2027 journeys from Cape Town to the Chobe Riverfront, with departures on May 14, June 4, June 25, and July 9.

SafariFind connects travellers with verified tour operators, package details, and authentic reviews. Use the guide first, then compare the route and budget with live listings before you choose.

What is a Chobe Safari Itinerary 2027: 5 Days, Route and Cost?

A five-day Chobe safari is a short wildlife trip built around game drives, a Chobe River activity, and arrival planning. The route gives you time for land-based wildlife viewing while keeping travel days under control. The published starting price is $1,699 per person, with lodge rates reaching $900 per person per night.

Known for: elephants and river wildlife

Chobe National Park is known for large elephant sightings along the riverfront. One listed tour combines an early-morning game drive with a sunset Chobe River cruise. The same tour describes sightings of elephants and four of the Big Five.

The river changes the feel of the safari. A game drive lets you follow tracks, search open woodland, and stop near waterholes. A boat activity gives you a low, open view of animals that come to the bank. That mix is the main reason five days feels fuller than a simple lodge stay.

Best for: a first short Botswana safari

A five-day Chobe itinerary is best for travellers with limited leave, first-time visitors to Botswana, and people adding Chobe to Victoria Falls. It is also useful for travellers who want a focused wildlife trip rather than a long multi-park route.

A Victoria Falls and Chobe extension lists June 22 to June 26, 2027, with four nights of accommodation and breakfast. That option can suit travellers who want to combine a major waterfall visit with a Chobe wildlife stay.

Families should check transfer times, room layouts, and activity rules before booking. Travellers who want a quieter camp may prefer a small lodge or an exclusive wilderness camp. Those who want more choice may prefer a riverfront property near the main wildlife area.

Compare Botswana safari packages by trip length before you decide whether five days gives you enough time.

Why the five-day format matters

Five days gives you a useful balance. You can arrive without rushing straight into a full day, take part in morning and afternoon activities, and keep one day flexible for the river. A shorter plan may cut out the river experience. A much longer plan may suit travellers who want Savute, Moremi, or the Okavango Delta too.

The five-day format also makes cost planning easier. You can separate the core safari price from flights, park fees, drinks, tips, travel insurance, and extra nights. Ask for each part in writing before paying a deposit.

What route does a five-day Chobe safari follow?

A five-day Chobe safari route normally follows an arrival day, three activity days, and a departure day. The plan centres on the Chobe Riverfront, with game drives in the morning and afternoon and a river activity during the stay. Exact transfer points depend on your operator and package.

Day 1: arrive and settle in

Day one is for arrival, transfer, and a first briefing. Check in, unpack, and ask your guide about the next morning's departure time. If you arrive early enough, the lodge may offer a short afternoon activity, but do not build your whole plan around it.

Arrival planning matters because a late transfer can reduce your first activity. Build a simple buffer into your schedule. Keep documents, medication, camera batteries, and one change of clothes in your hand luggage.

Day 2: early game drive and afternoon wildlife

Day two should begin with an early-morning game drive. The cooler hours often make it easier to travel, scan open areas, and follow fresh tracks. One listed Chobe tour specifically includes an early drive and describes elephant viewing in the park.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and a rest period. The middle of the day is a good time to sort photos, drink water, and ask your guide about the next route. A second drive can follow later, when the light softens and animals return to open areas.

Day 3: Chobe River activity

Day three is the water-focused part of the route. A Chobe River cruise lets you watch riverbank wildlife from a boat. One listed itinerary pairs a sunset cruise with game drives, so the activity can fit neatly into a full safari day.

Bring a warm layer, sun protection, and a dry bag for small electronics. The river can feel cooler than the vehicle, especially late in the day. Follow the guide's instructions near the boat edge and keep food stored away.

Day 4: choose a second wildlife focus

Day four is the best place to add a second full game-drive day. Ask your guide to focus on the sightings you have missed. You may want more elephant time, a search for big cats, or a slower route with fewer stops.

Some five-day fly-in itineraries combine Chobe National Park with Moremi Game Reserve and use scenic flights between camps. That is a different style of trip from a single Chobe Riverfront stay. It saves road time but usually needs a larger budget and careful flight planning.

Day 5: final activity and departure

Day five starts with breakfast and a final activity if your departure time allows. Leave enough time for the road or air transfer. A rushed final drive is rarely worth risking a missed flight.

Before leaving, check your room, settle extras, and confirm your onward transport. If you continue to Victoria Falls, ask the operator to confirm the border, transfer, and flight details in advance.

How much does a Chobe safari cost in 2027?

A Chobe safari costs from $1,699 per person for advertised Botswana safari journeys in 2027. Published lodge stays range from $400 to $900 per person per night. Listed land-only departures for December 1 to 3, 2027 cost $2,099 to $3,799 per person.

Price range: what the published figures show

The table shows why a starting price is not the same as a final quote. A lodge package may include accommodation and activities but exclude international flights. Another package may include transfers, meals, park fees, or a river cruise. Compare inclusions line by line.

What can change the final price?

• Room type and lodge location.
• Private or shared game drives.
• Road transfers or scenic fly-in transfers.
• River cruise fees and extra activities.
• Travel dates and available rooms.
• Flights, insurance, tips, and personal spending.

A luxury camp can raise the total quickly. The listed Chobe Under Canvas option starts at $2,140 per person. That price may suit travellers who value a private camp style, but a lodge-based plan may give you more room in the budget for flights or extra nights.

How to request a useful quote

Tell the operator your dates, group size, preferred room type, and arrival point. Ask for a five-day route with each included activity listed. Request the total per person and the total for your group. Also ask which costs you will pay locally.

Do not compare a lodge-only price with a fully guided package. Those products serve different needs. A fair comparison uses the same duration, room level, transport type, meals, and activities.

How should you plan a Chobe safari in 2027?

Start by choosing your dates, budget, and arrival route. Then match those choices with a verified operator and a clear five-day plan. Listed 2027 departures include May, June, July, and December, so early planning gives you more choice.

Getting there: choose the simplest connection

Getting there depends on the wider trip. Some travellers reach Chobe after time in Victoria Falls. Others join a longer southern Africa journey from Cape Town. Road Scholar lists several 2027 Cape Town to Chobe Riverfront departures, including May 14 to May 29 and July 9 to July 24.

Kazungula is a useful place to understand when reviewing regional routes. Link the Chobe stay to the actual border, road, or air transfer in your quote. A low safari price loses its value if the transfer plan is unclear.

Travellers considering self-drive should read the Botswana driving rules and licence guide before choosing that route. Guided travel is simpler for visitors who do not know local roads, park rules, or river access points.

Best time to visit: match dates with your goals

May, June, and July are listed 2027 departure months for longer journeys to the Chobe Riverfront. December 1 to 3 also has listed Chobe departures. Choose dates based on your own goal, such as river activity, cooler drives, or fitting Chobe around another destination.

Do not choose a date from a headline alone. Ask what the operator runs on each day. A river cruise, early drive, and transfer may not operate in the same order every week.

What to pack for five days

• Light layers for warm afternoons and cooler mornings.
• Closed shoes for lodge paths and transfers.
• Sun protection, insect repellent, and a refillable water bottle.
• Binoculars and spare camera batteries.
• A small day bag for river activities.
• Travel documents and copies of key bookings.

Pack less than you think. Most five-day safari travellers need comfort, sun protection, and easy access to essentials. A soft bag is often easier to manage than a hard case during lodge transfers, but confirm luggage limits with your operator.

How to pick a trustworthy operator

Check the operator's itinerary, cancellation terms, safety information, and recent reviews. Look for a clear breakdown of meals, transfers, activities, and park access. A good quote should make it easy to see what you receive for the price.

SafariFind lists verified tour operators and authentic traveller reviews. Read the reviews for comments about guides, timing, transfers, and communication. Those details tell you more than a glossy trip name.

What should you compare before booking?

Compare the full five-day experience, not only the headline cost. The best choice has a clear route, realistic transfer times, suitable accommodation, and activities that match your priorities. A cheaper package can work well when it keeps the core game drives and river activity.

Use this booking checklist

1. Confirm the exact 2027 travel dates.
2. Check whether the price is per person or per room.
3. Ask whether the package is land-only.
4. Confirm the number of nights and activity days.
5. Check if a Chobe River cruise is included.
6. Review transfer times and luggage limits.
7. Read cancellation and payment terms.
8. Compare recent traveller reviews.

A five-day fly-in Chobe and Moremi trip is useful for travellers who want two wildlife areas. The listed itinerary uses scenic fly-in transfers between camps. A single-area Chobe trip is easier to understand and may suit first-time visitors or travellers with a strict budget.

Meanwhile, a Victoria Falls extension suits a traveller who already plans to visit the falls. The listed June 22 to June 26, 2027 extension includes four nights and breakfast. Ask whether wildlife activities, transfers, and park access sit inside the quoted amount.

Families can also compare this route with a wider Botswana plan. The Botswana family safari guide can help you think through room needs, activity length, and travel pace.

Request a quote from verified operators through SafariFind, then compare five-day Chobe routes, prices, and reviews side by side. Find a 2027 Botswana safari package that fits your trip length.

Conclusion

A five-day Chobe safari is a focused 2027 wildlife trip with time for game drives, a Chobe River activity, and a well-planned arrival. Advertised Botswana safari journeys start at $1,699 per person, while listed riverfront lodge stays cost $400 to $900 per person per night.

Choose the standard Chobe Riverfront route if you want a simple first safari. Consider the Chobe and Moremi fly-in plan if you want two wildlife areas and accept more complex transfers. A Victoria Falls extension works well for travellers already planning time near the falls.

Before you pay, compare the full itinerary, room type, meals, transfers, park access, and activity list. Read authentic reviews, then request a quote from a verified operator.
