Introduction to Maun Safari Tours 2027: Costs, Hotels and Okavango Trips

Maun Safari Tours 2027: Costs, Hotels and Okavango Trips cover the main gateway to Botswana's Okavango Delta. Maun is Botswana's premier safari gateway and a base for trips into the Delta. It also gives travelers access to hotels, local activities, supply stops, and flights to remote camps.

Maun is useful because your trip can start simply. You can spend a night in town, then move into a water camp or land camp. Some routes continue toward Moremi, Khwai, Chobe, or Victoria Falls. The right choice depends on your budget, travel dates, and wish list.

Quick answer: A 2027 Maun safari costs about US$900 to US$1,200 per person each day during the July to October peak season. Seven-day mid-range trips cost about US$4,200 to US$4,900. Premium Okavango packages can reach US$11,000 per person, before international flights, insurance, tips, and some visa costs.

This guide explains the numbers in plain language. It covers hotels, Delta transfers, sample routes, booking timing, and the questions travelers ask before they go. It also points you toward SafariFind, where you can compare verified operators and read authentic traveler reviews.

What are Maun Safari Tours 2027: Costs, Hotels and Okavango Trips?

Maun safari tours are trips that use Maun as a starting point for the Okavango Delta and nearby wildlife areas. They can include a town hotel, guided game drives, mokoro or boat activities, light-aircraft transfers, meals, and park fees. The final price depends on camp type, season, and route length.

Known for: the Okavango Delta gateway

Maun is known for its role as the main access point to the Okavango Delta. The town is practical rather than polished, but that is part of its value. It connects road routes, charter flights, safari camps, guides, and supply services in one place.

Okavango Delta trips are known for water channels, seasonal floodplains, boat rides, mokoro outings, and land-based game drives. A water camp gives you a different day from a Moremi or Khwai land camp. That contrast makes a combined itinerary worth considering.

Best for: travelers who want choice

Maun is best for travelers who want a flexible start. Couples can choose a quiet lodge. Families can select a town hotel before a camp stay. Photographers can spend more nights in the Delta. Small groups can compare shared departures with private arrangements.

Nearby places can add variety. The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park offers a different setting from the Delta. Travelers with more time can also look at the Kalahari Desert, Ghanzi, or Tau Pan.

What the package usually covers

Peak-season safari rates often include accommodation, meals, guided game drives, and park fees. Flights, travel insurance, tips, visa fees, and gear rental usually sit outside the headline price. Read each package page carefully before comparing two totals.

• Town hotel nights before or after the safari
• Camp accommodation in the Okavango Delta
• Meals during the camp stay
• Guided drives or water activities
• Park fees and some scheduled transfers

Maun is also a useful place to add one rest night. That buffer can help if your international flight arrives late or your charter flight leaves early. It gives you time to meet your guide and check bags before entering the Delta.

How much does a safari in Botswana cost?

A Botswana safari costs about US$900 to US$1,200 per person per day in peak season for mid-range-plus properties. A seven-day mid-range trip costs roughly US$4,200 to US$4,900 per person. Premium Okavango packages can reach US$800 to US$2,500 or more per person per night.

Price range: the main 2027 options

The eight-day Maun to Maun package was advertised from US$5,649 per person, reduced from US$7,179. That figure gives you a useful 2027 comparison point. Still, check what the package includes before treating it as a final trip total.

International flights from the United States often add US$800 to US$1,500. Regional flights from Johannesburg can add US$300 to US$600. Tips, insurance, visa fees, and gear rentals add more.

Why Okavango trips cost more

Okavango Delta camps often sit far from Maun. Light aircraft carry guests to small bush airstrips near camp. One guide reports typical premium rates of US$800 to US$2,500 or more per person per night.

The flight is part of the route, not a small taxi ride. Camp food, staff, wildlife guides, park fees, aircraft transfers, and low room numbers all shape the price. A remote camp can cost much more than a hotel in Maun.

Prices also rise during July to October. The flood cycle and dry-season wildlife viewing make this period popular. Book early if you want a certain camp or fixed departure. One listed Okavango trip for 24 April to 7 May 2027 was already sold out.

Compare verified operators for a 2027 Maun safari budget and request quotes that show flights, fees, hotels, and camp nights separately.

What hotels and lodges should you choose in Maun?

Maun hotels work best as practical bases before or after a Delta trip. Choose a town hotel for easy arrival, a lodge for a quieter stay, or a camp for a more direct wildlife setting. Your hotel choice matters most when your flight schedule leaves a long gap before camp transfer.

Town hotels in Maun

Town hotels suit travelers who want simple access to shops, guides, and airport transfers. They are also useful for one night before a charter flight. Ask whether the rate includes airport pickup, breakfast, luggage storage, and an early departure meal.

Maun is not the main wildlife experience. The Delta is. Therefore, many travelers use town accommodation as a short stop, then spend the larger share of their budget on camp nights.

Delta lodges and water camps

Okavango water camps suit travelers who want boat rides, mokoro outings, and close access to flooded channels. Their setting can change during the year as water levels move. Ask whether your package includes water activities or only land drives.

Remote Delta lodges also use aircraft transfers from Maun. These flights can save long road journeys, but they add cost. Small luggage limits are common on safari aircraft, so check the operator's baggage rules before packing.

Land camps near Moremi and Khwai

Moremi and Khwai land camps suit travelers who want game drives and a broader mix of wildlife viewing. A combined water and land route gives you two different safari styles. That is often a smarter use of seven days than staying in one setting.

A wider hotel and lodge comparison is available in this guide to Botswana safari lodges and 2027 nightly rates. Use it beside each package's included accommodation, because a headline daily rate can hide major differences.

How should you plan a Maun and Okavango trip?

Plan a Maun and Okavango trip by choosing dates, trip length, camp style, and transfer needs first. Then compare full package totals. Start with July to October for strong wildlife encounters, but remember that these months also bring peak prices.

Best time to visit: July to October

July to October is the best time for many travelers who want strong wildlife encounters. The period is also the peak season for safari rates. If your budget is tight, ask operators about shoulder-season dates and compare the exact inclusions.

April and May can also appear in scheduled trips. However, availability moves quickly. The April 24 to May 7, 2027 Okavango departure listed by one operator was sold out.

Getting there: start in Maun

Getting there usually means flying into Maun, then taking a road transfer or light aircraft to your camp. Many Delta camps use bush airstrips. A short scenic flight can be part of the transfer, but the price and luggage rules need checking before payment.

Travelers asking what airlines fly to Maun should confirm current routes, dates, baggage rules, and connections directly with the airline or airport before booking. Schedules can change for 2027, and the available route depends on your starting city.

A practical route for seven to nine nights

A useful sample route has three nights in an Okavango water camp, two nights in a Moremi or Khwai land camp, two nights on the Chobe Riverfront, and two nights at Victoria Falls. This route needs more than one week once travel days are counted.

1. Arrive in Maun and spend one night near town if your timing requires it.
2. Fly to an Okavango water camp for three nights.
3. Move to a Moremi or Khwai land camp for two nights.
4. Continue to the Chobe Riverfront for two nights.
5. Add Victoria Falls for two nights if your visa and flight plan allow it.

The sample multi-destination route costs about US$8,000 to US$11,000 per person before international flights and Victoria Falls visas. A shorter Maun and Delta plan can reduce both transport time and the total bill.

Is Botswana worth visiting?

Botswana is worth visiting for travelers who value remote camps, guided wildlife trips, and the Okavango Delta. A seven-day safari costs about US$4,200 to US$4,900 at mid-range level, so the country suits people who can plan for a higher daily spend.

The best reason to visit is variety. A Maun trip can combine water channels, land drives, remote camps, and a longer route toward Chobe. The trade-off is price. Botswana's remote camps and aircraft transfers cost more than a basic road safari.

Is Botswana safe for tourists?

Botswana is widely used for guided tourist safaris, but travelers should follow current government advice, operator instructions, and local safety rules. Stay with your guide near wildlife, secure valuables in hotels, and confirm transfer plans before leaving Maun.

Questions about female travelers, pregnant travelers, gay travelers, or current travel conditions need personal advice. Check current government travel guidance and speak with a doctor or specialist operator before booking. This article focuses on safari costs and planning, not medical or legal advice.

How to plan a trip to Botswana

Start by setting a total budget. Add the safari package, flights, insurance, tips, visas, and gear. Then choose whether your main goal is a water safari, a land safari, or a route that combines both.

• Choose July to October for peak wildlife viewing and higher rates.
• Allow a buffer night in Maun when international flights connect with camp flights.
• Compare included flights and park fees, not only the advertised price.
• Ask about luggage limits before taking a light aircraft.
• Read traveler reviews before selecting an operator.

Travelers who want self-drive information can read SafariFind's guide to driving in Botswana and licence rules. A guided trip remains the simpler choice for remote Delta camps.

Key takeaways

• Set aside US$4,200 to US$4,900 per person for a seven-day mid-range Botswana safari.
• Choose July to October for strong wildlife encounters, but expect peak-season rates of US$900 to US$1,200 per day.
• Add US$800 to US$1,500 for international flights from the United States.
• Compare water camps and land camps because each gives you a different Okavango experience.
• Book early for 2027 because at least one April and May Okavango departure was already sold out.

Conclusion

Maun is the main starting point for many 2027 Okavango Delta safaris. A seven-day mid-range trip costs about US$4,200 to US$4,900 per person, while premium Delta trips can reach US$11,000. July to October brings strong wildlife encounters and peak rates.

Choose a Maun hotel when you need an easy arrival night. Choose a water camp for channels and mokoro trips. Add a Moremi or Khwai land camp when game drives matter most. A longer route through Chobe and Victoria Falls can cost US$8,000 to US$11,000 before international flights and some visas.

Compare the full total, not only the daily rate. Check aircraft transfers, luggage limits, park fees, meals, insurance, tips, and cancellation terms. Compare verified safari packages on SafariFind, read authentic reviews, and request a quote from a verified operator. Planning early gives you more choice for 2027 travel.
