Kubu Island Tours 2027: Prices, Routes and Best Time

Last updated: October 2026

Kubu Island tours 2027: prices, routes and best time depend on your trip style. Listed 2027 options range from US$1,500 to US$3,000, while a luxury six-day safari costs US$16,570 per person sharing. September and October have clear scheduled departures, while January has listed availability. Compare verified Botswana safari packages on SafariFind before you book.

Kubu Island tours 2027: prices, routes and best time are now easier to compare because several operators have published dates and rates. The choices are very different. A short self-drive style plan can sit near the lower end of the market. A five-night luxury safari with Jack's Camp costs much more.

Kubu Island is a granite outcrop in the Makgadikgadi salt pan area of Botswana. The island works best as part of a wider route, rather than as a quick stop from a city. Your plan may include the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, a private camp, or a longer overland journey.

Quick answer: Kubu Island tours in 2027 cost about US$1,500 to US$3,000 for listed standard options, while a six-day luxury itinerary costs US$16,570 per person sharing. September and October offer the clearest scheduled departures. January also has a listed package window. Check what each rate includes before comparing prices.

This guide explains the main routes, published fees, tour lengths, and booking points. It also separates low-cost campsite figures from full safari prices. That difference matters. A campsite rate is not the same as a guided safari with transport, meals, staff, and park visits.

What are Kubu Island tours 2027: prices, routes and best time?

Kubu Island tours in 2027 are Botswana trips built around the rocky island and the Makgadikgadi Pans. Published plans range from short package listings to nine-day overland journeys. The clearest luxury example lasts six days and includes three nights at Jack's Camp plus two full days exploring the pans.

Overview of the Kubu Island experience

Kubu Island is known for bare salt pans, granite rocks, and a remote camp setting. The area suits travellers who prefer open space and simple route planning. It is less suited to anyone who wants a city break or a fixed resort holiday.

Makgadikgadi Pans is the main setting for these trips. The wider region also includes safari camps and routes through central Botswana. Families who enjoy nature may like the area, especially when they combine it with other Botswana stops. Lonely Planet lists Botswana nature activities as suitable for families who enjoy outdoor travel.

Jack's Camp gives the luxury version of the trip a clear base. The Classic Africa itinerary lasts five nights, with three nights at Jack's Camp and two full days focused on the Makgadikgadi Pans. The published 2027 price is US$16,570 per person sharing.

Key features and trip styles

Kubu Island tours come in several formats. The right one depends on whether you value price, comfort, or route length.

• Budget-led travel: A listed 2027 price range begins at about US$1,500 and reaches US$3,000.
• Luxury safari: The six-day Classic Africa trip costs US$16,570 per person sharing.
• Off-road travel: A guided Botswana tour in September 2027 includes Kubu Island and charges an €855 vehicle-return fee.
• Overland travel: A nine-day tour runs from 24 September to 2 October 2027 and includes several Botswana stops.

The lower price range needs careful checking. It may cover a basic package or a limited trip plan, while the luxury price includes a camp stay and a full safari structure. Ask for a day-by-day schedule before you judge value.

Why Kubu Island matters on a Botswana route

Kubu Island gives a Botswana itinerary a strong focus. Travellers can build a trip around the pans, then add a rhino sanctuary, an elephant stop, or another safari region. This makes the island useful for both focused trips and wider overland routes.

The island also changes the pace of a standard wildlife holiday. You spend more time on open ground and less time moving between busy attractions. That quiet rhythm appeals to travellers who enjoy remote camps, long drives, and clear night skies.

How much do Kubu Island tours cost in 2027?

Kubu Island tours in 2027 cost between US$1,500 and US$3,000 in the broad listed range, but luxury trips cost much more. The best published luxury example is US$16,570 per person sharing for six days. Campsite and entry fees are separate figures, so travellers should compare inclusions line by line.

Published 2027 prices

BookAllSafaris shows one curated Kubu Island package with January 2027 availability. Its listing shows no option below US$200, which means the displayed trip prices sit well above a simple day visit.

Classic Africa lists a six-day Kubu Island Safari at US$16,570 per person sharing. The trip includes three nights at Jack's Camp and two full days around the Makgadikgadi Pans. This is a luxury benchmark, not a typical campsite budget.

What the price may include

A full safari price can include accommodation, guiding, meals, transfers, and activities. The published facts confirm the camp nights and route structure for the Classic Africa option, but you should still request a full list of inclusions.

A vehicle-return fee can affect the final cost of a self-drive or off-road plan. The September 2027 guided tour lists an €855 vehicle-return fee. This fee deserves attention when you compare a low headline price with the total amount payable.

Camping fees also work differently from package rates. One 2025 to 2027 fee listing gives international visitors a P100 entry fee and P200 per person per night for camping. African Reservations lists the Kubu Island campsite at P1,500 for stays throughout 2027.

Set a clear budget before you choose a route. If comfort matters most, compare luxury lodges. If control matters most, compare camping and off-road plans. SafariFind connects travellers with verified tour operators, so you can compare Botswana tour operators by route and request quotes before paying a deposit.

Which routes include Kubu Island in 2027?

The main 2027 Kubu Island routes include a focused Makgadikgadi trip, a guided off-road journey, and a nine-day Botswana circuit. Each route has a different pace. A focused safari gives you more time at the pans, while an overland route adds several stops and more driving.

Route one: Jack's Camp and Makgadikgadi Pans

The Classic Africa route lasts five nights. It includes three nights at Jack's Camp and two full days exploring the Makgadikgadi Pans. This route suits travellers who want a comfortable base and a deeper stay in one region.

Jack's Camp makes the route simple to follow. You spend less time changing camps and more time using the area as your main focus. The US$16,570 price reflects this luxury format and the five-night structure.

Route two: guided off-road Botswana tour

The September 2027 guided off-road tour includes Kubu Island and a vehicle-return fee of €855. This route suits travellers who want a guided road trip and do not want to plan every transfer alone.

Off-road travel needs a practical mindset. Long drives can shape the day, and the vehicle fee can change the total budget. Ask how the tour handles fuel, camp equipment, meals, border points, and vehicle support.

Route three: nine-day Wild Botswana circuit

The nine-day Botswana tour runs from 24 September to 2 October 2027. Its route includes Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Makgadikgadi Pans, Elephant Sands, and Kubu Island.

This route suits first-time visitors who want more than one region. Khama Rhino Sanctuary adds a different stop before the pans. Elephant Sands adds another point on the road. Kubu Island then becomes one part of a wider Botswana journey.

You can also extend a Botswana trip through Chobe National Park, or begin in Maun. The Maun safari tours guide covers another useful starting point for Botswana travel.

When is the best time to visit Kubu Island?

The clearest bookable time for Kubu Island in 2027 is September and October, because published tours run during those months. January also has listed availability. Choose your dates based on the route you want first, then check the exact camp and transport plan.

January 2027

January has a listed Kubu Island package window on BookAllSafaris. This makes January a real planning option for travellers who want an early-year trip. Check road conditions, camp access, and the full activity schedule before you commit.

September 2027

September has a scheduled guided off-road tour that includes Kubu Island. The nine-day Wild Botswana tour also starts on 24 September 2027. These dates give travellers a clear departure point for planning flights and extra nights.

October 2027

The nine-day route ends on 2 October 2027. October therefore works well for travellers who want a planned spring departure that finishes early in the month. Confirm every transfer before adding a separate trip after the tour.

There is no single best date for every traveller. A luxury camp stay, an off-road tour, and a campsite visit have different needs. The best time is the date that matches your confirmed route, transport, budget, and comfort level.

Travellers who want to add a longer Botswana trip can compare the Botswana safari packages by trip length. Those who prefer lower-cost remote travel can also review the Central Kalahari safari package guide.

How should you plan a Kubu Island tour?

Start by choosing your travel style, then match the route to your budget. A Kubu Island tour needs more planning than a simple hotel stay because distance, camps, vehicle fees, and entry costs affect the final plan.

Getting started

1. Choose between luxury camp travel, guided off-road travel, or a longer overland route.
2. Set a total budget, including flights, transfers, fees, and extra nights.
3. Check the number of nights at Kubu Island and the number of nights elsewhere.
4. Ask for the full 2027 itinerary before paying.
5. Confirm the vehicle-return fee if your trip uses an off-road vehicle.

The itinerary matters more than the headline price. A six-day trip with Jack's Camp offers a different experience from a nine-day road circuit. Read the day-by-day plan. Look for travel time, camp changes, meals, and activities.

What to pack and check

• Closed walking shoes for rocky ground and camp paths.
• Light clothing for warm days and a warm layer for cool evenings.
• Sun protection, a hat, and a refillable water bottle.
• Travel documents, insurance details, and payment records.
• A small bag for road transfers and camp stays.

Pack light when your tour includes several road transfers. Keep medication and important documents with you. Ask the operator about luggage limits before departure.

Best booking practice

Book early for a September or October departure. Those months already have listed 2027 itineraries, so availability can narrow as the travel year approaches. January also has a listed package, but you should confirm the exact dates and inclusions.

Use SafariFind to compare verified operators, review available packages, and request a quote. Read authentic traveller reviews before you choose. A clear quote should show the route, accommodation, transport, fees, and cancellation terms.

For a wider family trip, read the Botswana family safari guide. For higher-end stays, compare the Botswana safari lodge rates before adding nights around Kubu Island.

Conclusion

Kubu Island tours in 2027 range from broad package prices of US$1,500 to US$3,000, while a five-night luxury itinerary costs US$16,570 per person sharing. The best route depends on your trip style. Choose Jack's Camp for a focused luxury stay. Choose the nine-day circuit for more Botswana stops.

September and October offer the clearest scheduled departures. January also has a listed package window. Remember the separate costs. International visitors have a listed P100 entry fee, camping is listed at P200 per person per night, and one off-road tour adds an €855 vehicle-return fee.

Compare every inclusion before you book. Ask for the full route, camp list, transport plan, and cancellation terms. Compare verified safari packages on SafariFind, read authentic reviews, and request a quote from a verified operator. In 2027, a careful plan will help you spend more time enjoying the Makgadikgadi landscape and less time solving route problems.
