Excellent Tour to Awash and Doho

We had a great time with Armaye and driver Kinfir. They took great care of us, taking us to delicious restaurants, and generally making everything easy and smooth. We loved the safari drives in Awash National Park and Aledeghi Reserve, and soaking in the hot springs at Doho Lodge. We highly recommend the tour for a great weekend trip outside of Addis to relax and enjoy nature!

Incredible Experience

we were recommended by our best friends. we took 10 Days Northern Ethiopia tour with Armaye, from the moment of booking, service was exceptional. My questions were answered promptly and accurately. You will have the best time with Armaye in Ethiopia. We planned my trip together and he made adjustments as it came near so that I could maximize the variety of animals I could see. I saw numerous gelada monkeys, walia ibex and 99 species of birds. You will really enjoy touring with him.

My husband and I wanted to experience Ethiopia and that is exactly what Armaye gave us. He was very responsive in the planning stages and answered all of our questions. He shared a lot of information with us during our trip to Bale National Park and we felt immersed in everything we did. On day 1 we did the mammal walk with what seemed to be an enchanted forest and Day 2 was walking in the mountain looking for the Ethiopian wolf and going up to Tulu Dimtu 4377ft. We also enjoyed the local food.

Very knowledgeable wildlife guide

I spent a week with Armaye visiting various parks, reserves and wetlands in November 2022, primarily looking for birds and mammals and taking photos. He was very professional, capable, a good communicator and able to spot and identify birds and mammals very well which made for a productive week. His English is excellent and his cook and driver were also excellent. Aside from wildlife, he has a broad knowledge of history, culture, politics, etc so and excellent all round guide.

My wife and I have just returned from a week in Ethiopia. Our trip was organised by Armaye Tours and we could not have been more satisfied. From the initial enquiry until we were safely back home, Armaye communicated quickly, clearly and accurately. We felt in very safe hands. It was our first visit to Ethiopia so we kept it short but we will surely be back to see more of this beautiful country. Our interest is birds and we asked Armaye to put together a brief but full itinerary. He recommended three night in the Bale mountains and two at Lake Langano. He certainly knows what he’s talking about because the birds were sensational. We had a driver and a guide and both spoke excellent English and were really good company. Additional guides with local knowledge were waiting for us both in the mountains and at the lake. I was particularly impressed that everything was paid for. There were no surprises and the only time we needed to use money was for tips. Excellent organisation, clear and timely communication and a real personal touch. I recommend Armaye Tours highly.

Above and beyond expectations

I am a solo female traveler and this was my very first trip to Africa. From the very beginning Armaye was so helpful, flexible and responsive. Once I arrived, Armaye was there to greet me and bring me back to the hotel before a week of hiking in the Simien mountains and then the Bale mountains. I never once felt unsafe and his team was beyond caring and attentive in both the North and the South. Armaye and his team made this trip so memorable and I have so much respect for the people of Ethiopia and my time spent in such a beautiful place. It’s important to me that I used a local company as well, not only do they know the land better then anyone, but all the proceeds go directly to the people that need it most. I highly recommend Armaye Tours, and if I visit Ethiopia again in the future it will absolutely be through his company.

Excellent tour. Armaye delivered everything they promised and more.

This was a customized tour billed as focusing on wildlife photography, but it included so much more. In 3 weeks we did see a lot of wildlife, especially birds, but also a number of cities. The drivers, especially Ermi, were very knowledgeable and friendly. I especially liked the flexibility to adjust our schedule on the fly. The price was very reasonable, particularly since we stayed in some of the best hotels in the country. I highly recommend Armaye Tours. Note: The only thing I found annoying has nothing to do with Armaye. Apparently the Ethiopian government requires all tours to use local guides everywhere. In national parks this is often an armed scout. In the cities the local guide can be useful, but the scouts often just tag along and add little or no value. But of course they all expect tips at the end. This appears to be just to provide work for more people, since Ethiopia has a very high unemployment rate.

Best Travel Agent Ever

There are no words to express my gratitude for Armaye, who turned a last minute, impulsive decision to visit ethiopia into a once in a lifetime experience. In just a couple of days he made all the necessary arrangements for me to visit both the southern and the northern parts of the country. Armaye knows how to "read" people, so that he and his network of amazing guides and drivers throughout Ethiopia can help not just visit, but most importanlty feel and experience this unique country. Armaye is meticulous, knowledgeable and a master in travel servises, whereas he manages to combine his professional attitude with his friendly and warm character. I cannot reccommend Armaye highly enough, if I could I would give him 15 stars instead of 5. P.S.: A million thanks to Kinfe, the best driver ever, for all the laughs we had together.

Highlight of our trip to East Africa

My partner and I flew down from Addis for a four day, three night tour of Bale Mountains National Park with Armaye in November 2022. It was truly beautiful - a highlight of our trip to East Africa - and I’d highly recommend it. The park is gorgeous and we saw several ecosystems and many different types of animals - so many birds, different monkeys, antelopes, warthogs, a mountain civet, many wolves, etc. We went around the park by car rather than trekking/camping, and this worked very well for us. We still had lots of time during the day to do different walks, and ended up seeing more of the park than would have been possible just on foot. We did walks and drives near Dinsho, on the Sanetti Plateau, and in and around Rira / the Harenna forest (including one night at the beautiful Harenna Cultural Lodge). Armaye and Mohammed, the driver he was working with, were both very kind and great company. Armaye knows a lot about the wildlife in the park and just generally is an easy-going person so it was a pleasure to spend a few days in his company. Everyone else we met (at the hotel, in Rira, etc.) was also very nice. In addition to the amazing wildlife, it was interesting to see a little bit of how people live there - for example horses are an important mode of transportation and families in the Harenna forest have many beehives high up in trees that they harvest once a year. Some notes: it was chilly at times, but we were fine with some layers - I wore a thermal wool layer, a fleece, and a rain jacket and was fine in November. I also wore regular sneakers - some waterproof shoes would have definitely been better but I survived and was able to dry them by the fire at night.

Perfect organization, the hotels were very good and clean, and the drivers very professional. Armaye organized the tour only for 2 people and we visited very interesting places in the North and in the south of the country. Ethiopia has been a very nice discovery.

Armaye Ethiopia Tours was the first of three agencies to respond to our request for a quote for a tour in northern Ethiopia and was extremely responsive in addressing questions and issues, and flexible in coordinating our tour. We enjoyed being able to converse with a knowledgeable local guide in each site we visited and were especially impressed with the smooth coordination among them as we traveled. Each site we visited was amazing in its own way. In one relatively short trip we were able to enjoy astounding landscapes, see a little of the way of life in different rural and urban areas, and learn about some of the rich history and culture in Ethiopia.

Responsive and reliable tour operator and fun too!

Armaye was so responsive to our request for a very last minute request for a trip to Ethiopia. He answered quickly, responded to questions quickly and designed our tour to our preferences. I was a bit nervous about travelling to Ethiopia where we knew we would be "off grid" but it was very safe and the people we met were very friendly. Armaye was our guide too - very informative and answered all my husband's inquisitive questions about culture, traditions, food. Aman was our driver and also comes highly recommended. Aman is an expert driver both on major roads and offroad. WE saw many animals specific to Ethiopia that we hadn't seen before, including lots of Ethiopian golden wolves. The 3-day tour in Afar was excellent value.
